Art

[text only]

Art is often considered to be a particular thing, such as painting. However, one can apply paint to canvas the same way one would apply paint to a house. The distinction is that art is not so much a particular thing, as a mode of activity. The artistic mode itself is not limited to the creation of art objects. Transient objects, not destined for the halls of any museum can also be created in an artistic manner. Even actions can be performed in the artistic mode.

The artistic mode also has two complementary aspects; one acts to stimulate and please the senses, while the other stimulates the mind. In this way, art can be intended for the intellect or the senses. Objects can be beautiful, or provocative, or both. This does not just depend on the intent with which they were created, but also the particular aspect of the artistic mode to which one is attuned when experiencing them.

In this way, everyday things in the world around us, though they are not intentionally artistic, can be seen as forms of natural or chaotic art.
